Disc golf is a somewhat new sport, but it has been around for a little while. Regardless, disc golf has started to become much more popular in the past several years. Keep reading to get a beginner’s guide to disc golf that will tell you the basics that you need to know.

Understanding How Disc Golf Is Played

Playing disc golf is so simple that anyone will be able to get the hang of it. That doesn’t mean that it isn’t difficult to master, though. The object of the game is to throw a frisbee disc into a designated basket. It’s similar to normal golf in that you’re trying to get the disc in the basket in as few shots/throws as you can.

Much like standard golf, there will be 18 holes. The player who has the least number of strokes at the end of 18 holes will be declared the winner. If you’ve ever played golf before, then this can be a fun alternative. It’s a physical game that is also easy to play while socializing with your friends.

Getting Started with Disc Golf

Getting started with disc golf is quite easy because you just need to buy some basic equipment. You’re going to need discs that are specifically meant for disc golf. People who play disc golf aren’t just throwing standard frisbees that you might use to play with your dog. There might be a disc golf store in your area, but if there isn’t, it’ll be possible to get what you need online.

There are different types of discs that you’ll need that have different weights. They’re known as drivers, mid-range discs, and putters. You’ll want to ensure that you have all three, and it might be good to pick out discs that feel just right in your hands. Depending on the type of throw that you’re attempting, you’re going to want to use specific disc types.

This is just like changing your golf club to suit a specific situation. A driver disc is meant to be thrown long distances while a putter is meant for the short throws that you’ll be doing to finish and get the disc into the basket goal. Just get the equipment that you need and you will be ready to start playing.
