Though they may seem worlds apart, business and sport are actually interlinked in shared strategy. Whether you are trying to conquer the boardroom or make it out on the field, there are a few shared strategies that can help you to achieve those goals.

Here are some of the commonalities in strategy between business and sport.

Simplification

One of the keys to both business and sport is that the best of them understand that they can’t possibly know it all. As much as we would like to be the most knowledgeable about every facet of the business or sport, that just isn’t possible.

So, a simplification is the best route. Focusing on a single component or task can make the difference. Not only will it make you better at that individual task, but it will give you greater confidence and leave you feeling more capable than ever.

Focusing on Strengths

Another crucial aspect that business and sport share is the team aspect. Instead of trying to do everything, there is the importance of a role. Whether that is the head coach/CEO or a member of the team, playing a role is critical.

Those who do one thing well can be valuable assets in either environment. By focusing on your strengths, you help the team. When everyone focuses on the thing that they do well, you have a business or team that has people doing what they do best across the board. That leads to success regardless of team.

Coordination

Whether in the office or on the field, it is important to be on the same page. When a group comes together and works in unison, striving for the same goal, that goal becomes infinitely more achievable.

When poor communication and egos get in the way, there is often disaster to follow. Being coordinated toward a single goal is the best way to achieve success in business or in sport. Being able to work with people is part of life no matter what arena you happen to operate in.
